Self-Sabotage: A Girl Stuck By Her Own Doing

Image
Often times I get paralyzed by my own fear, fear of success, fear of losing the comfort and fear of risks. I start a project and have it all layered out but when it comes to execution, I'm suddenly thrown into self-sabotage, the "what ifs". What if no one supports me. What if I fail. What if its not perfect. Here is my personal favorite, quite unusual too. What if I succeed too much that I become detached. I'm not saying it's my personal favorite because I have accepted that I do not want to succeed. No. I say that because attachment to me is addition. What if I become too obsessed with making money?  Oh my God I'm laughing at that last line as I type this. My mom today, 16th June asked me probably for the 10th time what do I want to do. I sat there tea in my hand grinning like an idiot while also praying for her to change the subject, so I said to her I wanna make money. She said "you have the tools what's stopping you?" How to Succeed in a New Job: The Ultimate Guide to Your First Week

Starting a new job can be overwhelming, but remember to give yourself the grace and time needed to truly grow comfortable in your new surroundings

I had started a new job on christmas week as a security officer. So locked in I didn’t get to celebrate my birthday. Two months have passed and it's safe to say I survived.

Here's how you can also survive those first weeks of a new job.

1. Do what you know.

Your skills and knowledge got you the job, it's time to follow instructions and do your work accordingly.

Always ask if you're confused, it's better to look slow that incompetent.

2.  Plan the days ahead.

How you look and act at work represents the company. While your skills speak for themselves it won't make sense as to why you're always late, disheveled and incompetent.

Plan your outfits for the whole work week, if you wear a uniform. Keep them clean and ironed. Use a planner and write down all you'll need for work.

3. Make Nice NOT Friends

Your colleague are not your friends, keep stuff about you private. Excluding yourself from hearing gossip will be hard however do not comment on anything proof or no proof.

Sabotage can be disguised as kindness.

4. Write down weekly reports.

You're probably required to submit reports at work, those are for your bosses to see if changes needs to be made. You can make your own and you'll see if there's anything that you need to improve about yourself at work.

5. Take your principles to work.

Your daily work decision are determined by your principles. Every worker needs a moral compass to point them towards choosing the right path and not ruin their reputation by being out of character. This way you will be able build trust within the company and to clients.

A positive outlook keeps your expectations in check. Plan carefully, stay observant, and do the work the results will follow.
